CASE STUDY PROGRESS
I have turned my San Francisco visit really into my case study consumer experience thanks to the use of Alcatraz Cruises. As I did so much while in San Francisco, I decided to focus on my Alcatraz tour as I felt that the company truly matched up with creating a memorable experience for its clients.
From ticketing to touring, the process was simple and clear. Their website and directions while onsite spelled out exactly what would be included on the tour and there were many options of tour times and additions you could add while on the island. I have chosen to focus my case study approach on the emotional and intellectual experience the company creates for those visiting. The audio tour starts by walking you through where the inmates got their clothing, showered, and were basically checked into the prison. I visited Auschwitz Concentration Camp a few years back, and the process was very similar. My experience while touring Auschwitz was memorable for me and has truly changed me mentally and emotionally. I think that Alcatraz Cruise's use of an audio tour creates such a memorable appeal because it allows the visitor to put themselves in the shoes of those inmates. They did an excellent job with spacing and narration to draw in its visitors. There are pros and cons to their audio approach for the Cellhouse, but I think it really helped individualize the experience. The audio was easy to follow along to and gave a lot of information without being interrupted by others’ questions. The whole package is an experience from the ferry ride there and back, to the many tours you can choose from. I talked with many employees throughout my time on the island. From the security personnel, to the ferry crew, to the park rangers and guides, there really is a well and diverse crew that help create a memorable experience for all visitors to the island. I gained feedback on what employees like about the job and the many opportunities available to them. They also talked about their experience with the island and the reason they enjoy being a part of such a unique piece of land.
