Industry Connection
Creating meaningful relationships is crucial to being successful in the hospitality industry. I have built my network through numerous networking events whether for an organization, association, or school event or class speaker. The key is not only to meet new people, but to follow up, stay in touch, and find ways for the relationship to be mutually beneficial. Why do they need you? On my birthday, I received a "Happy Birthday" message from a woman on LinkedIn. Rather than ignore the message, I explored her profile to see that she was an industry professional that I had never met. Though I was a bit skeptical, I decided to reply back with a quick elevator pitch introducing myself. Her response came as a surprise. Later that evening, I called her to follow up on her response and our relationship grew from there. I ended up interviewing her for a project or two and we still keep in touch whenever she needs help for an event in the area and she is always available as a resource for me.
REFLECTION
You never know when you will meet someone important. A door was open, and rather than let it pass by, I jumped on the chance to build my network. Share your brand and put yourself out there.
